Identifying Marks of a True New Testament Church

Jesus said in Matthew 16: 18, "...I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it". Hence, the Lord said that the gates of hell shall not prevail against his church, therefore the Lord's true churches continued to exist in the world despite severe persecutions especially during the dark ages. The question is how can we identify it because there are so many churches claiming to be true. There are certain identifying marks of the true church founded by Christ.

Q.1
Who is the man sent to prepare the materials for the Lord's church? *

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
(Joh 1:6)

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
(Mat 3:1-3)

Q.2
Who is the founder of the Lord's church? *

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(Mat 16:18)

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
(1Cor. 3:11)

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
(John 1:42)
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (1Cor. 10:4)

Peter means a small stone, pebble (Greek, Petros) (John 1: 42). When Jesus said, "You are Peter" he is saying you are a small stone but upon this Rock (Greek, Petra), Christ was pointing upon himself as the huge Rock. "This" is a demonstrative pronoun referring to the nearest person and he did not say, "that rock", he said "this rock", referring upon himself as the solid foundation (I Cor. 3: 11).

Q.3
Who is the head of the church? *

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Col 1:18)

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
(Eph 1:22)

Q.4
Where was the church started? *

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
(Mat 4:17-22)

Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
(Act 1:21-22)

Q.5
When was the Lord's church started? *

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
(Gal 4:4)

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, (Luk 3:23)

Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
(Act 1:21-22)

Note: The company of baptized believers started after the baptism of Jesus (Mat. 3) , then he started to call disciples (Mat. 4)

Q.6
What is the rule of faith and practice? *

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
(2Ti 3:16-17)

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
(Col 2:8)

Q.7
What are the 2 Scriptural Offices? *

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
(1Ti 3:1-8)

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
(1Ti 2:11-12)

Q.8
What are the two pictorial ordinances? *

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
(Mat 28:18-20)

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
(1Co 11:23-25)

Q.9
What is the polity (system of government) in the New Testament church? *

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
-Matthew 20:25-28

The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
-1 Peter 5:1-3

Q.10
One of the marks is separation of church and state. What does it mean? *

And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
-Mark 12:17
