Worshipping God in Spirit

By Edwin Jardinel

worshipSpirit
Man is a worshipful or reverent being because his conscience acknowledges that there is a supernatural being superior to him existing. Man, because of his ignorance of the Word of God, tends to worship God according to his own ways and ideas which are erroneous. On the other hand, God wants man to worship Him according to His divine ways as revealed in the Scriptures. God cannot accept false worship, and so , He is seeking for true worshippers (John 4:23-24).

Q.1
1. How should true Christians worship God? *

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
(John 4:24)

Q.2
2. What are man's ways of worship which God does not allow? *

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
(Exodus 20:4-5)

Q.3
3. Can God be compared or likened to anything? *

To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like? They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (Isaiah 46:5-9)

Q.4
4. Does God want to be represented by any object created by man after his own imagination or thinking? *

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. (Acts 17:29)

Q.5
5. How did man try to change the glory of the incorruptible God into that of a corruptible being? *

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
(Romans 1:23)

Q.6
6. Who should be the object of man's worship? *

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (Romans 1:25)

Q.7
7. Will God give His glory unto graven images? *

I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
(Isaiah 42:8)

Q.8
8. What is the profit of worshipping a graven image? *

They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? (Isaiah 44:9-10)
